Empty Roads? Don't think so!

We all dream of quiet, empty roads, especially when we've got the car packed, the kids in the back and we're going on that long journey.

Unfortunately, the only thing that seems to be reliable on a bank holiday weekend (the weather certainly isn't!!) is that the roads are going to be congested, with predications of 'Frantic Friday' and 7-hour long 'rush-hours'.

To assist holiday makers and commuters, Highways England have lifted some roadworks on motorways and trunk roads, in fact they are lifting some 300 miles of roadworks!!!!! They say that 97 percent of motorways and trunk roads will be roadwork free!

However, Highways England are leaving about 40 sets of roadworks in place. The longest of these being the M23 (jn 8-10) and the M6 (16-19) both of which are 20 miles in length.

The BBC, RAC and INRIX are predicting that the busiest times to travel on Friday will be between 14:00 - 19:30, Saturday 11:00 - 15:00, Sunday 16:30 - 19:00 and on Monday 10:00 - 15:30. Choose your travel time wisely.

Thinking of taking the train instead? Well, you may want to think again! There are plans for approximately 400 sets of engineering work to be done over the weekend with many major routes cancelled or certainly affected.

The roadworks lifted by Highways England are only on motorways and Trunk roads, most other Local Authority works are likely to stay in place and just remember that they will all be back on Tuesday anyway!!

If you want to avoid roadworks on your local, regular routes then download and use the roadzwork app.

Have a great bank holiday and let's keep our fingers crossed for good weather!!!
